I will go with you

I recently read a few posts where the writers were saying that September brings in a new chapter more so than January which brings in the start of the new year. I agree with them because for most of us it is the start of a new routine, a new pattern. You may have children or grandchildren who are starting new schools or universities which means you depart from the routine or pattern you had before September and it’s a brand-new chapter. For anyone who is starting a new chapter or doing something new then I say, “fear not” God already has you covered.

Let me share with you why I say that. My husband and I were invited to a wedding reception but at the last minute he could not attend for personal reasons. I was torn between not going or going alone. I thought about the lovely dress which I had had made specially for this occasion, a fabric chosen by the bridal party customed made for me by my talented seamstres. I would miss the chance to meet the bride and groom and be part of their new chapter and I thought I would really like to go. I deliberated on asking one of my friends to go with me but because it was on a Thursday I thought it was too short a notice for someone to rearrange their routine and take time off work to accompany me.

Do I chicken out and don’t go or do I trust God to see me through and believe that it would be better than all my imaginations? After sleeping on it, the next day when I woke up I really felt that God was saying to me, why do you think you are going on your own when I am with you. I will go with you and come back with you, just watch and see.

My husband was surprised when I said I was going to the wedding. We had planned that if we were going, we would take an Uber anyway to the wedding and back as it was in London about forty miles from where we lived. I got dressed and booked an Uber. It was a very straight forward journey but with lots of traffic. I arrived about thirty-five minutes later than I had planned. About five minutes or so before arrival I realised that I hardly knew anyone at this wedding apart from a handful of people who will not be available to me because they were part of the bridal party. I was feeling very anxious and self-conscious as I entered the banquet hall. I felt that all eyes were on me when most likely everyone was busy doing their stuff. I identified my table number and made a beeline for it. As I got to the table I realised that it was a couples table because of course I was expected to be there with my husband and everyone at the table was with their spouse or partner. Also, because I was the last to arrive the two seats left had their backs to the center stage. Once I had sat down I said a general greeting to everyone and I was soon offered some snacks from one of the waitstaff which really helped me to relax and observe my surroundings and the people at my table.

I had been there for about thirty minutes when I realised that I was not alone as I had thought, the couple seated to my left I had interacted with though it had been mostly by text and one phone call. I introduced myself and called them by name and they confirmed that they are who I thought they were. This caused me to relax even more as I had two people on my table I could converse with.

I also realised that the couples to my right I had already met them but briefly and the evening just got even more better. The fears of being alone and not knowing anyone on my table soon disappeared.

After the buffet and some dancing the battery on my phone was running out quite quickly so decided as much as I was enjoying myself I needed to get an Uber and leave. The amazing thing was that the Uber driver was a Christian and he told me that he had asked God to give him a job that took him close to the airport and God gave him me. For the next sixty to seven minutes, we talked about God and really blessed each other.

When I got home, God reminded me that he would go and come with me and indeed he had kept his promise.

I dont know what new thing or chapter you are starting this September, be encouraged that God is with you.

Feel free to reach out and tell me about your new things and new chapters that makes you anxious
