How was your first six months of 2026?

For me, it has been a remarkably busy six months. I have been involved in three events which required praying and planning. Even with the time spent in prayer and planning I experienced some anxious moments.
Now that I am in the first month of the last six months of the year I am feeling relieved and contented. I look back at the last six months and I am asking myself why was I anxious?
Our human nature constantly causes us to worry about forthcoming events. Especially if it is an event that we have not done before.
We worry about what we need to do and we worry about what we might forget to do.
We worry about who will be there and how we will be perceived.
We put a lot of pressure on ourselves unnecessarily and some of the pressures are about things that we cannot control.
We need to focus on the stuff that we can control and trust God to do the rest. If you are wondering what are the things that you can control and the things that you cannot control, let me give you some practical examples.
If you need a job, searching job websites and agencies, updating your CV are the things you can control as these are stuff that depends on you taking an action, you cannot be asking God for a job but not doing these things which are within your control. When you see a job that matches your skills and you apply for the job you cannot control receiving a response from the company or organisation who is recruiting. This is out of your control.
If you are invited for an interview, you prepare based on the brief and what will be covered, for e.g. you may be asked to prepare a presentation or scenarios. It is within your control to research the topic and prepare a great presentation for the interview or research scenarios based on the role you are applying for. After attending the interview, you cannot control the outcome because it depends on what the company or organization is looking for. The things you cannot control you can trust God for these and don’t stress yourself about it.
If you don’t get the job trust God that this was not His will for you and something else will turn up.
We spend a lot of time stressing and being anxious about the things we cannot control instead of focusing on the things we can. I know because I often fall into that cycle where I am worrying about something which is out of my control and not leaving it with God. Then I realise what I am doing and then ask God to take control but then something happens and I am back trying to control what I cant. In each of the events I have been involved in this year there were things I could control, making all the preparations that I needed to do but the outcome of the events are out of my control. I have to trust God that all the preparation I have done brings about a great outcome.
I was recently by the seaside and watched the waves smashing against the shoreline. As I was watching it, it reminded me that I cannot control the waves doing what they do naturally but I can control my feet getting wet or staying dry.
How was your first six months of 2026? Are you looking back and analysing and critiquing what you should have done and you didn’t do? Or are you looking forward, taking the lessons you learnt in the first six months and applying these in the next six months.
Remember that you cannot control everything so if there are things that did not go the way you expected after you had done everything within your control don’t stay stagnant beating yourself up about it. Shake it off and push forward to the next thing because the more you dwell on the things that could have been the worse you feel. Whereas the more you push forward and try new things applying the learnings from the past the better you feel about yourself.
I would like to hear from you, get intouch.
