Taking Big Steps in 2025?

Where has January gone? It seems just yesterday we were wishing family and friends happy new year as we started 2025 and now…… we are already in the second month of the year.

How are you feeling? Have you taken some big steps already in 2025 so early in the year? Are you feeling anxious about it or are you taking it all in your stride. I was chatting to someone recently and they told me that they would like to move far away from where they currently live. I asked them what brought this on and its always the same answer... people.

Taking Big Steps
Are you taking big steps in 2025?

Some wise person said that we should not take big steps or make big decisions when we are feeling low or angry about something as you would end up making a decision that you would regret. If you stop and let it rest for a day or two you will probably feel differently a day or two later.

Don’t let anyone make you second guess yourself, if someone says something and it makes you sad or brings your mood down, don’t embrace what they said as words have power to bring our mood down or take our mood up. Since the new year started I have taken some big steps but at the same time there is a bit of anxiety.

I recently connected with someone who is helping me professionally and it’s a big step for me to branch out like this on my own but at the same time I feel that it is the right thing to do. There is always a bit of anxiety about doing something new or stepping out of our comfort zone. Its so easy to keep doing the same thing that you have done all your life because it is safe and it makes you feel comfortable. I have learnt that if you do not step out of your comfort zone you don’t grow and you don’t realise how much more you are capable of.

This first week in February is children’s mental health week and most children are naturally comfortable doing the same thing day in day out. When most children are taken out of their comfort zone they act up, they are not the same. We are ingrained from babies to have a routine, eat at certain times, sleep at certain times, wake up at certain times because this usually helps the other people around you to cope better and whilst it is all great to have those routines, later in lifer as we grow up it causes us to be anxious or afraid to step out of our comfort zone, do something new or take big steps which are unfamiliar to us.

As parents we should encourage our children to try new things, do things out of their normal routine as this will help develop their character and also discover some abilities they did not know that they had.

As Mary Angelou said, “If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.” I agree totally if you don’t try something else, something out of your comfort zone you never know what hidden talents you have. That does not mean that we go ahead and do things that will be detrimental to us. I am talking about things that enhances us as individuals.

Parents, encourage your children to try different sports or activities at school or outside school. They may discover their purpose in life as not all children are academics. I say the same to adults, it is not too late to try something different. I saw a post the other day where an NFL player left the NFL to start farming and it has been the most fulfilling big step of his life. He is now fulfilling his purpose. It does not matter how old you are as long as you have health and strength you can take big steps.

I would love to hear about the "Big Steps" you are taking this year. Send me an email with your big steps.
